It doesn't take any extra effort to say please and thank you, nor to listen while someone else is speaking. Sometimes respect grows out of small things.

I don't care what anyone else says SFC Stephen King, it is very important! Be honest with whom you are speaking with, treat them like a person - that is someone's child! You can be an asshole and hide behind rank - hope you feel better about yourself, but if you want to really impact your organization and if you really care about your people, you will spend time with them, having an open conversation and allowing them to be open with you. You don't have to prove you are still the rank on your ID card. Treat people like people - that does not mean you do away with military discipline. It is a privilege to serve in our armed forces, don't waste the opportunity.

SFC Stephen King I say it is extremely important in all of your communications whether your just saying "good morning" to a person you pass on the street or saying good morning to the directors in a high powered board meeting. Professionalism and tact are a must in everyday interaction and in my opinion they say something about your character and you as an individual, a mentor, a coach, a leader, a manager, or even as a friend. Think before you speak and think before you write here on RP. Great post and discussion!

Tactfulness is very important, and one skill that i have learned to be extremely important as a (now) Civilian dealing with Military and other Civilians, much more so than when I was Active Duty.
