Private RallyPoint Member6486990<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Thanks in advance! I take the leave back home from 12/19-01/02 and head straight to Carson. However, my wife, kids, home and vehicles are back in California. Does this mean I would report to Carson on the 3rd, and possibly have to go back home to pick up my family? I understand the Army will pay for the movers to get my items, however I have two vehicles and was planning on just driving. Also, will waiting to get an on post house take a while while my family waits in CA? Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.How will getting to my first unit of assignment work if I head straight after VBL?2020-11-10T19:45:07-05:00Private RallyPoint Member6486990<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Thanks in advance! Are you going to be in the negatives? <br /><br />Your unit will explain your courses of action that can be taken to facilitate your moveResponse by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 10 at 2020 11:09 PM2020-11-10T23:09:55-05:002020-11-10T23:09:55-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6487716<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>What is it you want to do? Follow on report dates are so far out so that you can take leave or not if you choose. You can also report up to 30 days early to your current report date. Your orders will state how many travel days you're authorized as well, you don't get charged leave for travel days.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 10 at 2020 11:46 PM2020-11-10T23:46:54-05:002020-11-10T23:46:54-05:00SGM Private RallyPoint Member6488118<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I’m not sure if they allow this out of training, but what lots of people do when booking a flight to PCS is called a “cost construct.” This means you can book your flight to your preferred destination rather than your ordered destination if the cost is less or equal. This is normally done in conjunction with an OCONUS PCS to the port of call.<br /><br />The booking has to be through your CTO (usually Carlson Wagonlit/SATO Travel). Tell them what you’d like to do and they will help you book within the rules. DON’T try to book it yourself on a commercial site or you will probably not get reimbursed. CTO gets special rates and all tickets are booked full-fare changeable/refundable.<br /><br />Best of luck.Response by SGM Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 11 at 2020 4:03 AM2020-11-11T04:03:06-05:002020-11-11T04:03:06-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6488181<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>While you out process from AIT you will go to transportation and will be able to set up an appointment to have your house hold goods moved from California to Colorado free of charge. Since you have a family and two cars the Army will also pay you to drive from one place to the other with both cars. Gas food and hotel will be included. You will get per down for each day. You will get a certain amount of days depending on where in California you are. 350 miles per day is what the army goes off of. You must sign in on the last day that is on your leave. The army also gives you 10 days to find a house if you plan to live off base. If you are not sure I would make a reservation at the hotel on Carson for a few days you are looking for a house. The military will pay you back for a certain amount of days if you have to pay out of pocket.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 11 at 2020 4:49 AM2020-11-11T04:49:54-05:002020-11-11T04:49:54-05:00Fort Carson Mountain Post Living6489171<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Connect with us if you have any PCS questions.
