How well does your unit conduct CBRN training?

Within your respective units; do you feel a commander puts any effort into training CBRN/NBC CATS? If so how is it brought into his METL and how do NCO's train it? If not when is the last time you've checked out your mask and serviced it?

Since I work in TRADOC, we do not have masks, but as far as all the non-TRADOC units I have been a part of, we did regular CBRN training. Sometimes it would be as simple as PCCs/PCIs, other times we would have to wear the mask for a designated period of time, like for a few miles of a ruck march. I think it is important to keep up with being familiar with all of our equipment, because you never know when you will need to use it down range, regardless of how unlikely it may seem.

In Korea, we focused on the JSLIST and M40/M50. When I was the CBRN NCOIC in my first unit, we did training a few times a year.

My unit did the MINIMAL amounts of CBRN training. We only did it when the task was forced downwards on us from higher. I am not suggesting that this is right...just answering the question. Most units I got to know in the Army were this way.

Most CBRN training is:

a) a years worth of training crammed into a morning.
b) minimal participation.
c) hand-jammed.
d) CS Chamber, and nothing else.

I understand that NBC (No Body Cares), or now CBRN (Can't Be Really Necessary) gets ignored because in the theatre we are in today, it is not a relevant threat. However, with the increase of ISIS and the rumors of their using Chemical Weapons, the fact that not 1 year ago we were sending ships to the Mediterranean to neutralize the Syrian chemical weapon cache... the threat is real, and the CBRN training should be taken as seriously as anything else.
