How to volunteer for deployment and would I be in my MOS?

Stop by your S3 and see what they got listed. Otherwise, you can set your status to volunteer in your US Army HRC OMPF.

You would be in the same MOS you currently arw in, or if you have a secondary MOS, you could be in that one as well. I deployed with Soldiers that volunteered. You also have to make sure your unit is willing to release you.

I think that a key factor is area of expertise, your unit and MOS with qualifications.
I was slated for several missions because of how well I handled previous combat and hostile situations. Being deployed does not always remain within the scope of a particular MOS.

Being that you are in the National Guard I would seek out a deployment from a unit in your state. I would see if your Readiness NCO could push a request up to your State's Command to see if they need people. For your MOS you would have to deploy in your MOS or reclass to the one that is needed. You can not deploy in a position in which you are not MOSQ. But if you can't find one in your state I would then try the other states. Keep in mind it doesn't matter how much you are needed. Your state calls the shots and they don't have to release if they don't want too. If you do a request in your state first at least you can say you tried and they didn't have anything.

I saw you got advice to talk to your S3. I wouldnt do that without a person in your chain. Or you could get squashed.

Keep in mind you aren't the only E5 wanting a deployment. There are thousands that are upset they haven't done anything. I shattered a deployment dream this last weekend at drill.

No deployments suck but it's a true test to see how you are while the climate is "boring."

In the meantime, I would try to go to as many schools as I could.

There are ways to volunteer for an upcoming deployment! I'm Guard so in our state U just see what shortages there are and hope Ur command will let U go. Most get down to critical shortage and starts pulling MOSs that need to be filled. Email me at [login to see] . Are U guard or active?
