How can I go from the Reserves to the IRR? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-to-go-from-reserves-to-the-irr-no-back-handed-comments-please

Does anyone know the process of going back to IRR from reserves? I just finished a 4 year contract active duty and went reserves. I did it for school not realizing my post 911 and fafsa pays for everything. Also many employers are very hesitant to hire me due to the possibility of being sent off to training. There will be counseling, etc. Bottom line, if the LOSING UNIT (wherever you are currently) signs off (all the way up the chain), time will pass and transfer orders will be cut.

See USAR PAM 600-5, Figure B-59, but AR 140-10 Governs.
Good outline here:
https://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Put-an-Army-IRR-Packet-Together&id=8779241
But, as always, it is Army Regs, not something you found on the internets that govern.

Notes:
1. You will need a "cogent reason"/justification
2. It is a request, it **CAN** be denied.

Excessive Traffic

COL Vincent Stoneking Fri, 22 Apr 2022 16:41:59 -0400 2022-04-22T16:41:59-04:00 Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 22 at 2022 7:02 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-to-go-from-reserves-to-the-irr-no-back-handed-comments-please?n=7638678&urlhash=7638678

You make a request through your chain of command to be released to the IRR. You'll get a lot of questions from your chain, it'll probably get sent to JAG once or twice, it'll eventually reach a general officer and you'll get a yay or nay. I'd recommend attaching a memo in addition to the DA form explaining your request.
