Once a Special Duty Assignment get their claws in you and cut tentative orders you are pretty much forced into a corner. Either you execute orders as written or get out. Your perspective of not being competitive isn't 100% realistic though. You won't be the first Military member tagged for recruiting when you wanted to be elsewhere. You'll be fine and promote on schedule if not sooner.Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Feb 9 at 2021 10:04 PM2021-02-09T22:04:10-05:002021-02-09T22:04:10-05:00CSM Charles Hayden6734213

Report while wearing a Round Brown! SSG(P) Private RallyPoint MemberResponse by CSM Charles Hayden made Feb 9 at 2021 10:47 PM2021-02-09T22:47:29-05:002021-02-09T22:47:29-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6734974

I u see stand how you feel. Many have felt that way before. What I have found is, you’ll still be competitive if not promote faster than your peers. I’d hate for you to lose your opportunities because you think you won’t be competitive for future promotions.

A little Recruiter humor- but also true. You’ll understand soon. Just take the orders, do your best, and be better for it. I too went to Usarec as a E5, picked up and spent my first 2 years as an E6 with no KD time. Guys I went to ALC with picked up E7 at the first opportunity, so yes you will be behind some of your peers. However I came out of usarec and back to the line as one of the senior E6s in my company. Almost immediately I got put into a PSG position, and spent the next 2 years making my KD time up (and getting #1 NCOERs due to my position).

Now I’m in the unfortunate position of being likely to end up high on the OML for E7 this year, and I just came down on drill orders. Again my KD time will take a back seat to the needs of the Army.

While it sucks on a personal level, you should look at it holistically. Most of us infantrymen don’t want to do Tradoc jobs, but we are the largest MOS, and therefore more likely to come down on those orders.

On the other hand Usarec is currently over strength, so if you call and talk to Branch, they may be able to help you out.

If you need any other advice, feel free to reach out.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 10 at 2021 10:14 PM2021-02-10T22:14:36-05:002021-02-10T22:14:36-05:00CSM Darieus ZaGara6741610

You really cant.
