How to get airborne on your own?

My unit doesn't get slots for these schools and I'd really like to go to airborne. Is there anyway to go about getting that school or others on your own?

Its pretty easy to get here at Benning, just be a walk on but its harder when you have to go TDY for it. Talk to your chain of command and see what they can work out for you. If you really want it there should be a way to get it. I have seen Soldiers from a lot of different MOSs going through airborne school

You can either put in for a transfer to an AB unit via 4187, reenlist for the option, get attached to an AB unit, or pay out of your own pocket for a certified skydiving school that the Army will accept. Other than those options, not much else available.

Unless you are in Airborne unit your schools NCO will not be able to get slots like those unfortunately. Your best bet is 4187 to request a slot and/or Re-Enlist. You can also select in your A.S.K. to be a Airborne volunteer.

Call your branch assignment manager and tell them you would like to volunteer for Airborne school with a follow on assignment to an Airborne unit! Keep in mind other factors will play apart in your ability to get the school thru HRC enroute, like your ability to PCS and your specific MOS and it's strengths as well as Airborne Assignment availability! Have you had an Airborne physical, no use chasing it down if you can't pass an Airborne physical.

Thanks guys! I'm stationed at Ft. Stewart and was hoping to get a walk on after ALC. I'm not up for reenlistment until 2015 so I guess my best bet is to go after ALC.

Seek an Airborne assignment. All the wings mean is that you were able to complete a week's worth of training in three. If you're not on jump status, there's much better courses out there to develop you as a soldier.

The unit gets very FEW slots, but it does get some. As far by yourself..no. There is a whole orders process. The days of going on leave and signing into a school like that is gone.

What you talking about??? No nothing about AB anything, other than there is no way I'm jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. I couldn't find any posts I made to you, regarding you or anything else.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for all warriors, especially those that wear the Wings and tabs of Ranger and SF, To me those folks have just taken one more step to further the protection of our great Nation!!

The only way I know of getting a slot if the unit your in doesn't get them is to make it part of a re-enlistment contract. It is possible to choose the type of unit you want to be assigned to upon completion of the school.

Reenlist for them... it is possible and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I just reenlisted for Military Free Fall School. :)

Maybe you can get on no pay orders and get a walk on slot during the winter months.

I’d like to go to Air Borne school still to this day, but I’m locked into a dual status technician job and can’t leave the support state. Is there any way I can go to Benning as a walk on with limited help from unit readiness NCO’s? We all know that they prefer to work no more than they have to. If anyones cracked this case, drop some knowledge please.
