The earlier the better. I had only 3 months to do it, and that wasn't nearly enough time.Response by SGT David T. made Sep 9 at 2016 9:42 AM2016-09-09T09:42:01-04:002016-09-09T09:42:01-04:00SFC Joseph Weber1876620

Heck, start now. At least visit and get some info. We're talking about your life. 18 months is not that long.Response by SFC Joseph Weber made Sep 9 at 2016 9:49 AM2016-09-09T09:49:38-04:002016-09-09T09:49:38-04:00MSG Private RallyPoint Member1876629

I've known people to do it 3-6 months from ETS.Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 9 at 2016 9:51 AM2016-09-09T09:51:56-04:002016-09-09T09:51:56-04:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member1877059

I believe the recommendation is 18 months out, but I know that can be Command driven....ACAP/SFL is an excellent program especially for those that are junior. I picked up some good tid-bits but it was more geared for those that have done a enlistment or two...E-7s and above will likely find it less than helpful...but its all what you put into it...the VA briefings are very important and the DOL briefings and exercises were also helpful. I scheduled my ACAP soon after I got my orders...having been through the process especially for those that are senior....the sooner you get started the better....the problem I ran into was I had a few posible jobs that wanted me to start but I couldn't because I was still on active duty.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 9 at 2016 12:25 PM2016-09-09T12:25:37-04:002016-09-09T12:25:37-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member1878946

I don't know. Here's what I do know. If you go to JKO, you can take online courses that will teach you much of the same material you'll learn in SFL-TAP/ACAP and the many 2 day courses. Start networking and making plans for that new career move or GI Bill use now. By the way, whatever medical issues you have as of now, get it checked out now so its guaranteed to be there for the VA.

https://www.armytap.army.mil/
https://jtspratley.com/blog/what-school-is-right-for-you
https://jtspratley.com/blog/from-the-military-to-college
