They are getting rid of the old ones. The first room I had was pretty bad with black mold. But the new ones don't have that issue yet. Just maintain a clean room and make sure to clean the wall.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 16 at 2017 7:10 PM2017-01-16T19:10:11-05:002017-01-16T19:10:11-05:001SG Darren James2254645<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>SGT Uplinger is right. The older ones got closed out, but the newer ones are smaller. They're overcrowded, so the post is approving SGT's and senior specialists (case by case) to move into on-post housing on BAH.Response by 1SG Darren James made Jan 16 at 2017 9:23 PM2017-01-16T21:23:10-05:002017-01-16T21:23:10-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member2255704<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Depends on the unit. I'm on the second floor of an enclosed three story complex with stacks A-D with an HVAC system that works most the time. I was Lucky enough to get a room of my own, where infantry have a single roommate. Rooms have full kitchens with stove top refrigerator and microwave but do not have an oven. Toaster oven works great! Hope I could give you an idea of how the New barracks are on post SGT.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 20 at 2017 8:39 AM2017-02-20T08:39:31-05:002017-02-20T08:39:31-05:00PV2 Private RallyPoint Member2361155<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The life here in ft polk barracks are better than fort hood from what i saw when i west there.... The Rooms at polk are small but if you are an E5 you will get your own barracks room to your self which is basically like a little one bedroom apartment cause nobody will take up the other space... the barracks was suppose to be like the in and out barracks for the whole post but budget cuts and then we got the less spectacular room designs for the postResponse by PV2 Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 21 at 2017 6:11 PM2017-02-21T18:11:47-05:002017-02-21T18:11:47-05:00PVT Kevin Manion2580837<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Your in the military get over it!Response by PVT Kevin Manion made May 18 at 2017 7:41 PM2017-05-18T19:41:30-04:002017-05-18T19:41:30-04:00SGT Daryl Gordon2746322<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I really can't add any valuable information on the subject, but got quite a laugh out of the question and thought I'd share this. I went to Fort Polk in September of 1967 for AIT. Was told at the time that the barracks I was in was used for POWs during WWII. Don't know if it was true or not, but that was the story. I sure hope those buildings are no longer in use. There was also a joke about chaining a cockroach to the front entry steps to keep the alligators away. Yeah, the cockroaches were pretty big, but I don't recall seeing any alligators while I was there. My training was 36K, so I'm not talking about the famous "Tigerland" which almost assuredly preceded a trip to the real jungle. Never went to the jungle, spent all my active duty time in Germany, in WWII German barracks. Go figure.Response by SGT Daryl Gordon made Jul 19 at 2017 3:06 PM2017-07-19T15:06:01-04:002017-07-19T15:06:01-04:002017-01-16T18:50:38-05:00
