Well, I lived there for 20 years. If you don't mind hell of lot of light half the year and a hell of a lot of dark the other half of the year, this place is for you. If you like to catch king salmon on a fly rod during your lunch break from a river that runs through the post, you might enjoy your time there. If you understand that you are made of meat, are part of a food chain, that large land predators live and operate in the area and practice composite risk management accordingly, you will probably have a swell time. If you enjoy downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoe softball, drinking and other winter sports, you are in for a pleasant stay. If you have an extraordinarily high tolerance for mosquitoes and will not miss snakes, roaches and the ability to travel to another state over the weekend, get your orders set. If you are cool with being in the field when it is -20 degrees go for it.

Alaska is like no other place on Earth. There are places you can go and be the only person within 100 miles. It is a place of stunning beauty and solitude on the one hand, and on the other, is Anchorge, a city of 300,000 with Wal-Marts, shopping malls and such. You can play pond hockey, in the winter, watch midnight basketball in the summer and enjoy incredible seafood.

If you have the opportunity, by all means go.

Absolutely amazing- Hiking, hunting, fishing, flying (private pilot license instruction in downtown anchorage).

06-10 I had amazing units as well in the 4-25 ABN BCT. Enjoy it!
