I’ve found a good bit of info on other MOS’s but am having trouble finding information for 31K. I had a friend tell me they’re on the road constantly for TDY and deploy every year. Is there any truth to that? I know every deployments vary per unit but was hoping someone could share their personal experience on this matter. What are your days like when you get to your unit? Do you get to work with a dog as a new private? Do you get to choose between PEDD or PDDD? Thanks!

Honestly as a new PVT you will npt get to choose what type of MWD you will be working. It all depends on what dogs are avaible and your leadership. With that said deployments and TDYs are very frequent if your on a PEDD. Not so much as a PDDD. The types of deployments you can expect as a PDDD is acting in a law enforcement capacity, not a combat capacity.
When you get to your kennels you will inprocess, after that you will start to work a MWD. That will be your absolute focus for a few months. You will have to go through a vaildation, than a MACOM certification. Its a nerve racking event, its like anything in the Army. There is a standard that has to met with all aspects of the job.

Also what most leadership try to do is match up personalities. Each dog is unique in its own why and the trainer and leadership has a good beat on how the dog is. So, we try to make the best choice in that way. You switch dogs a few times before they find a good match.

A lot of truth to that. It does depend on where you are and what is going on at the time, what kind of dog you have, how much they like you. Yes you do work with dog and you may get a choice but most likely you wont or they will give you what you don't want.

It all depends if you have a narcotic dog or an explosive dog. Explosive dogs go tdy more often for VIP missions and such.
