How much self promotion becomes being arrogant?

Had job interview yesterday after testing tor 911 dispatcher but overnight began to wonder if I relayed my message rather than looking arrogant.

Hey, its the time for talking about yourself. I was given great advice on the matter by an HR professional who stated, during interviews it can be uncomfortable for service members to talk about themselves by their nature. But you have to jump in with both feet, they want to hear how great you are and I'm sure you did wonderfully!

they sell its like selling yourself so I say sell away just don't sound stuck up saying if that make sense. Kind of like its not what you say but how you say it kind of a thing.

Great question, I'm getting ready to start applying for jobs in California (to relocate). Not having interviewed in 18 years, I'm not looking forward to it! When I've interviewed people, I liked when they had self assurance about what they had done. So, I'm guessing you did great!

Sometimes it's better to explain what you're job entails (covering many interesting details) - many HR folks and people that haven't been in the military find it very interesting. If someone asked you to talk about your experience in an interview - it's good to go into detail. They'll usually change the subject when they've had enough.
A good point to remember is - try to highlight the skills & experience you have, which would make you good for the position you're applying for.

SSgt Rilene Ann I think a job interview is like selling a "product" and if they "buy" it, the rest is "customer service", keep them happy about their decision.

AH, but be careful about over self-promotion. One always to remember that they are a number of other people in life's cast that helped you along the way. A former peer (????) was so full of herself that she worked herself out of a job that she really wanted. At the same time, she upset anyone else that came into contact with her because of her own self-promotion.

During a job interview you have to talk about your strengths and how they will help the company. Think back over what you said to see if your statements could have been worded a little bit better.

You need to get used to bragging on yourself. If you want the job tell the interviewer how good you are at multi-tasking, taking charge, working under pressure just like you did in the military, along with all of your accomplishments. Think about it this way if your commander wanted to know why he/she should want you in his/her command, what would you tell him/her about yourself to convince him/her you are better for the job than anyone else he/she may be considering. Just a thought. Good luck

Well compared to the civilian world us Veterans volunteer more often and sometimes civilians react negatively when start discussing volunteer activities do on regular basis.

I know the feeling. After so many years giving briefings, leading discussions and classes, and just leading Soldiers you have to walk into a situation like you own it to give that impression of confidence. Some who have never been in the military might feel uncomfortable with that or ever threatened by it.

If someone is not able to promote themselves then nobody else will do in a job interview. Know your weaknesses and explain them too.

I'm not Arrogant, I know I'm Great, Quit Picking on me. LOL! That is a good question how do you present yourself as knowledgeable and self assured without going overboard and looking like an Arrogant Ass. The Fact that you have the Where with all to ask such a question makes me think you did just find. I think your probably have a better inner editor than you realize.
