The highest paying job in state politics is the governor of Pennsylvania: $187,818 a year. The lowest? State representative in New Hampshire: Just $100 a year. So, where do politicians in your state measure up?

I don't know about the other states but California which pays it legislators the most appears to have the poorest performing ones, at least in terms of fiscal management. Our debt is the largest of any state.

The figure for Tennessee is a little misleading since our last two governors (1-03 thru now) have not been paid. Both were super rich before they got into politics and have never taken their government salary. Governor is our only statewide elected office.

I live in Virginia which at number 27 in the map above. This is close to the middle of the pack; but, since I don't know the range or distribution of salaries I don't know if this near the statistical mean or median SP5 Mark Kuzinski
I know many of the conservative state Delegates and a few of the state Senators and know they don't make very much in comparison with what their "day job" pays.
