How much can CIF charge?

So my truck caught on fire last week the day I was bringing all my CIF to the quartermaster to get cleaned, luckily it was my last trip so not all was lost... unluckily, some of those items were an IOTV, ACH, and some wet weather gear. I’ve been told CIF has a cap at how much they can charge you, can someone inform me if this is true or not? As well as what’s my best option... oh and by the way I final out and ETS in a week.

This is something NOT to stall about on. There is depreciation of each item but I don't think that there is a limit that they can go after from your final pay.

It's been awhile but back when I was doing FLIPLs the most they could charge an enlisted soldier was 1/2 a months pay for 2 months. That's why you never see officers driving military vehicles.

Also, you should be able to bring in the burned remnants of the destroyed equipment and a copy of the police report or insurance paperwork or some other documentation supporting your claim of a fire and they should still give you credit for it.

May have changed since I did reports of survey, but then it was enlisted no more than one month's pay and officers, every single penny of cost. I remember in ROTC the PMS drilled into us that the prime purpose of an officer was to take pecuniary responsibility.
