How much affect did the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy have on the rise of sexual assaults in the Army?

I can't believe that there are people still out there claiming that the rise of sexual assaults in the Army can be attributed to the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. What are your thoughts?

I was prior, and am still against the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' (before you go racing to my 'chain of command,' "for all intents and purposes" I'm out now and can really speak free). In my (idealistic) impression, the Military represents tradition, values, and "model American citizenry." The Homosexual orientation (or my non-PC term "Heterosexually Challenged") gets convoluted and does not represent an image that captivates me (or am I okay with intriguing our youth). The Religious inferences are many, but I'm "old school" and feel we should fight to not only keep the term, but also adherence to "One Nation Under God" in our Government and its' entities.

To respond to you (biased) question, I'll put it to the other way (opposing/biased). I personally met former Capt Devery Taylor, he even served in a Mentoring org. with me on Eglin AFB. His effeminate mannerisms made my "Gaydar" go off, and I am certainly glad I didn't choose to spend off-duty time with him as a fellow USAF Officer. Proof is in the story (link provided one news organization), that he slipped date rape drugs to other Male Airmen at 'the Swamp' (Nightclub in Fort Walton Beach, FL) took them below 'deck' and raped them while they were incapacitated. CW3 Tiaquina, you must be in a very tight "bubble" - the Military repealing DADT was a mistake (in my opinion) and now glorifying this month as LBGTQ (still don't know what the 'Q' stands for) further emboldens the Folks you're too PC (Politically Correct) to offend (or personally are one). Hell yes, it can possibly spike SA's in the Military!

I don't think the two are related at all. Homosexuals have been in the Army since its formation. If there was a correlation, the only fluctuations in the number would correspond to the troop numbers. I think the reduction in entrance standards combined with the deployment cycles are far more influential. It will be interesting to see what happens to the numbers when we get back to a peacetime OPTEMPO.

I'm with you Chief. That is a Far Stretch of the Imagination. I think someone is just trying to justify their Fear and Hate of LGBT Folks.

Similar to domestic violence, the LGBT community couldn't make a report without self incriminating. I don't mean that straight people cannot be raped but many people were simply afraid of what would happen if they reported. That's not an issue anymore and I think the repeal of DADT led to an increase in reporting, not the increase of assaults.

I think its funny that all this started with BHO Administration and has morphed into every sexual idenity one can imagine. Can anyone explain why male rapes have increased? I have read that male suicide has increased and it is thought to be from the stigma of being too weak to stop an assault. I do not know but the shame for some men is too great to cope with.

You think that's bad...I encountered many a battered dependent women...fresh from the clubs...begging me not to report their Rapes...because their deployed husbands....would find out.......I did a lot of CQ and the club was close to our barracks...they parked in our lots.... I used to catch women climbing through windows sneaking in the back doors all the time... the service member would say ,she's my wife..I'd say really.... Some of the older guys married or not ...up to E-8 had love nests... one guy had carpeting ...a red lamp and would play Barry White music... I had no problems with gay men but lesbian assault on straight women.... that was a whole different story and such a headache that was. They really hated each other.
