I dont regret being retired because where the Navy was at they were not going to let me re-enlist because it was during the time when they were down sizing. I had 18.5 years in and was medically retired. I was beside myself with grief, anger, frustration, guilt, betrayal,.......... the list is endless. I was always going to be a 30 yr man and even then I was going to retire kicking and screaming. I mean, I have a 24 yr old tattoo of a Bradley fighting vehicle on my arm. Then it dawns on them, the military life was so much better even though duty conditions were so much tougher.

Working nowadays in a economy where very few Americans are even veterans, life is even harder now for Vets then before! Most Veterans can related to each other, we know the stories and don't have to tell each other; what military life was like!

But civilians don't know and don't understand. In the military it was doing your duty as a military member and back each other's play! In the civilian world, it is how much of a buck can you make for the company and don't care whose toes you step on or who's back you shove the knife into!

I was in from 82-91, then worked as a Army Contractor from 91-00. 2000 on, is when I really found out how much I hate the civilian world. 2011 I went on permanent Disability, due to Scoliosis and fighting with VA now do to service-related illnesses/injuries that have caught up. I kinda enjoy the semi-retirement life away from working in the civilian world, although the pay sucks at the moment!!!!!!!!!
