(AR 623-3, Paragraph 3-2d, Dated: 4 NOV 15) Rating officials greatly affect a rated Soldier’s performance and professional development. Thus, these officials will ensure that the rated Soldier thoroughly understands the organization, its mission, his or her role in support of the mission, and all of the military and/or academic standards by which individual performance will be evaluated.

I personally think that it is critical to understand the organization's mission, and the role each individual has within the unit. I have not seen it done yet, but this is also a personal responsibility.
