As a long time user and one of the senior user admins, I wish I could just remove pointless discussions like this. Why do members get so wrapped up over the points?

For those not familiar, RallyPoint recently raised the minimum number of Influence Points required to 15,000 before being able to down vote anyone. The purpose is to ensure that people who down vote have a sufficient amount of experience with the community and understand protocol.

SGT Zila Winstead IMO a person should get to know RP and the rules before being able to down vote. The 15,000 pts gives a person some time to figure out what is going on before they start the down voting. I think it also stops people from being able to make bogus profiles and screwing off without repercussions.

I have never voted anybody down SGT Zila Winstead and I have no intention of voting anybody down. It would of been a good idea if you include a choice of other.

I have a long way before I can down vote someone, however, instead of raising the points that high the RP admin team could have made it where if you were to down vote someone, an attachment pops up for you to give a response on why you are voting that way.

just last week I wanted to down vote a SSG because he called me a lesbian when I have been happily married to my husband for 20 yrs. he got mad because I called him out on his b.s. on calling someone a "pussy" and other names and telling them to STFU..... but since I do not have enough points I could not down vote his responses. he did this to quite a few on just one thread. so I can imagine he has done this to others on other threads as well.

If the objective is to reward influence with points, then why not provide points regardless of a thumbs up or thumbs down? Disagreement is OK and should not result in punishment.

It's a good idea. We need to make sure someone is invested in the community before they go about down voting people. They also need to understand that this isn't REDDIT or Tinder where you randomly attack someone's stance without significant reason. This is a professional social network.

So today I was vote down, I am guessing because he didn't agree with my view or maybe it was because I called him out on another thread, I don't know.. So, I learned that I can't vote him down if I want to, which I admit I did. I read here that I need 15k points because that's the rules, OK. But what about posters being in the top 1% of Overall Influence or top 1% of Knowledge Influence, would that not mean something? Or how about a policy, that if a person votes another down, she/he must post the reason for it, back up their act.
