CPT Private RallyPoint Member it is not actually a prank but a time honored military tradition for the last member of the wedding party to smack the new wife on the butt with the flat side of his saber/sword. This is for wedding with all military members of the party in formal uniform.
The expression on the face of teh new wife is frequently priceless. I explained why my wife was struck by a friend while we are on our honeymoon.

I married my wife 30 years ago. I had already had three years in the Navy and she stayed by my side for 23 years while I was actively serving our country. Oh and by the way no pranks were done!

My brother had a Datsun Pickup when he got married. Myself and 4 other guys picked it up and set it length wise between two trees, so after the wedding when they went to drive off, they couldn't move. After the good laugh, we picked it up and move it for them.

My wife is 5'2" and 105 lb after a spaghetti buffet. She's run 4 marathons (including the 2014 Marine Corp Marathon) and will be running the Big Sur marathon in April. She is a kickboxer and has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

I'm alive today because my Will To Survive is greater than my "That'd Be Hilarious" impulse.

My wife and I Just celebrated our 24th yesterday, 14 Dec. Here's how I "proposed".
When my wife and I met in Panama, (blind date) I was already set up to go to SF Selection. So after dating a few months I asked her “If I were to go on to pursue the career of an 18D (Special Forces Medic), when I come home from mission, training or whatever, will you be home or will I find a note on the refrigerator and you and the kids gone?” While it was effective in my case, that’s not recommend. Twenty four years later, I still hear about that. To this day, I still have not officially proposed.

When I first got married probably not. But if my wife and I were ever to renew our vows in a formal ceremony, I may do something like this now that I have seen it. Thanks for the idea! :)
