How many of us veterans and retirees live close to where we grew up and/or near other family members?

My parents moved from England to this country just before I was born. I grew up in and around Philadelphia, PA. I moved around while in the military and ended up living (at least for now) near where I was last stationed in northern Virginia. A large part of my extended family in in Europe. However, my American cousins families and one of my two sisters families live within an hour from me as do two of my four sons.

I live 750 miles away from where I grew up. I grew up in Harvard Illinois, yes I graduated from Harvard! I live in Aston, PA.

I was born in Florida. I spent most of my youth in Georgia. Between the Military and civilian life afterwards, I lived over 17 years in Germany. Just to complete my "world tour" I've now lived in North Pole, Alaska for over 3 years. The rest of my family is scattered throughout the country, although most live in the Georgia / Alabama area.

I'm from Billings, Montana. I returned there after my active duty ended. Thirteen years later, I relocated to Murphysboro, IL. Six years ago my wife and i moved to DeSoto, IL. No reason for me to go back to Montana.

Joined the military while still in high school in Washington State (Nat'l Guard), 1984, left for USMC boot camp in 1987, went back once on leave in 1989, haven't seen it since. Alabama is home now.

I don't live close,to any family since I got out which,does not,bother me at all but really I like cause that way they don't bother me in a way

Define close. Is 1150 miles close?

The closest I have lived for at least a year was 125 miles, but, most of the time I have been over 1000 miles from my old hometown.

Me, born and raised in Westerly, Rhode Island. My (beloved) Spouse, born and raised in Amhearst/Lorain, Ohio. Only got to RI or Ohio as a consequence of Leave. I served 30+ and Ellen served a bit over 8 years. Daughter and her family in Southeastern Connecticut, all three boys and their spouses near us in Central Texas. Why Texas? Besides the fact that I was normally posted to Fort Hood, no Tanks or Cavalry Mounts in Rhode Island! We bought our home upon my graduation from the Academy (1999) and being re-posted to Fort Hood, Still own and live in the home! Our Military Family is here in Texas. We telephone the rest!
