Drink when "thirst response" hits. Somehow, the "drink X glasses of water a day" became common knowledge, without much real backing, and can actually be dangerous as it flushes the body of nutrients. I use to eat a lot because I wouldn't understand if my body was hungry or thirsty. I've realized over the years that I was replacing water with food and I gained weight. Water helps replenish you after a good sweat and keeps your body working. I've also eaten less and lost weight because I've increase my water intake. I am currently going through withdrawals of smoking cigarettes and water has helped me a lot.
