how long would I spend at the Defense Language Institute if I chose to learn spanish, french or italian? What other opportunities are there?

French and spanish are 9 month courses. There are people being put into these courses regardless of your DLAB score. Not sure of the other opportunities you’re inquiring about.

You don't go to DLI, that's for language specific MOS's. Unless you are reclassing to 35M or 35P you will not go to DLI. If you do go to one of those MOS's you'll be given Korean, Chinese, Russian, or Arabic to learn

DLI West doesn’t have Italian. But the Spanish course is about 9 months and I believe French is about the same or shorter. I did Russian and it was 14 months. It was a great program.

For sure man but if I could give you one piece of advice, choose a language you actually want to learn. It will make it much more enjoyable because it is a very difficult school. Also don’t forget to relax and enjoy the coast though. Good luck
