This is exactly why family care plans are required in advance so when things like this happen you already have an established plan in place. Military life is expeditionary by nature and stuff like this happens.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>1 minute.<br /><br />Family Care plan is required to have a plan for &quot;emergency care&quot; precisely because sometimes plans change in the military with absolutely no notice. A GOOD family care plan will have transitions in place, as well. Emergency care person should be able to contact short term and/or long term care person and arrange a drop off. Short term should be able to contact long term.<br /><br />Obviously, the more lead time we can give parents - be they single, dual military, or &quot;standard&quot; civilian spouse couples - the better. But there is no requirement to give any specific level or time period of notification.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Family Care plan is to cover all= training, deployments etc. We were always call on No- Notice Deployments, Readiness Exercises, etc. If it takes you 2-3 days to get a family member to do child care, then your plan is badly flawed.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If your unit doesn&#39;t have a long range training calendar, they&#39;re failing. I&#39;ve been in plenty of units that didn&#39;t post them. Yes sometimes last minute things happen - but it boggles my mind people think that a FCP can cover every possible scenario or hypothetical. It can&#39;t. It&#39;s like there were &quot;leaders&quot; trying to say people needed to enact their FCP for covid last year when daycares and schools shut down. Um no. That&#39;s not what it&#39;s for. <br /><br />Granted I could enact my FCP with 4 days but it&#39;s not ideal. Leaders should be able to communicate things to their soldiers, especially those who have kids. Especially if there are custody issues at play too - because a FCP doesn&#39;t overrule court ordered custody. A FCP isn&#39;t even a legal document (as it states within the regulation). It&#39;s just to document the plan. That&#39;s it.
