How long do you think it will take before someone uses the Stolen Valor fervor as a reason to kill?

We all know that Stolen Valor is a huge thorn in our side as Military & Former Military. We have also seen ISIS and other types of Terrorists/Criminals randomly killing others to further their cause/agenda. My Question is how long do you think it will be before someone puts these two things together & uses our aggitation over Stolen Valor to target us as potential victims and what, if anything, can we do to keep that from happening?

I personally think a veteran or active service member is going to kill someone over alleged stolen valor before the reverse happens. To protect ourselves we can stop being such assholes and overly offended and instead of filming hateful and angry confrontations and publishing it online for all to see, simply document it and report it. It would also help to not accuse every single case of a person in fatigues as stolen valor. In other words do the same thing that we need to do to Muslims, Sikhs, other non Christians, and people who aren't white, which is quit being assholes to them, that is what is feeding the reciprocal hate.

God, I hope not.
It has been my contention for a long time that the videos you see of confrontations are just showboating for the camera. Bad behavior doesn't get fixed by more bad behavior.
If you see it, take the offender aside, ask some pointed questions, and "encourage" them to do the right thing. There is no need to make a scene, unless you are trying to score "likes" or "shares".

Brothers, I feel the concern is an overreaction. I think the perceived threat is over-inflated. Sure someone could kill someone due to stolen valor, because someone kills someone over a Black Friday TV Sale - I mean crazier things have and is happening. People are nuts, and as a veteran community we are not excluded from nut jobs (I mean we have all worked with one or two... dozen)

There is definitely some serious over-reaction to Stolen Valor, and it's getting old.
What I have noticed, people feel justified in everything when addressing "a wrong."

It's only a matter of time before some loser goes into a bar and tells a woman he's scamming that he's Chris Kyle and his death was an elaborate hoax so he could go shoot some more bad guys. Then a vet or AD guy is going to probably take it too far.

A potential solution: Since stolen valor is a felony, we need to make it easier for us to report it and get action on it. It should have a priority for the police to respond of slightly higher than a minor traffic accident. After all it is a felony. I would love a 1-800 number to call when I am out and a fat troll is on a bar-stool with a frogman trident, ranger tab, CIB, CAB, jump wings, and a medal of honor on a tacky vest scamming free drinks out of people on veterans day (sadly I saw that guy in Phoenix). If there are other avenues to relieve our frustrations then we run a better chance that those will act as a relief valve and keep one of our weak judgment brothers from exploding on one of these guys to the peril of their life.

I'm in favor of sending stolen valor maggots to a form of stolen valor SERE school. 1 month punishment should be a good reminder of what they didn't earn their way through.

Hopefully something like this NEVER happens. If something like that was to happen, this would be a terrible excuse and it would only be an excuse. If someone were to act in a violent fashion over a case of stolen valor, there was other things in the mix and the stolen valor was the spark.

Stolen Valor as a "reason to kill"? Probably not, but I absolutely see it being possible that a violent confrontation over claiming stolen Valor could become deadly.

Someone that is a soldier, can and always will recognize other soldiers even in civi's , they do not have to go to the limits of seeing the potential person as a threat to his or her ego. These people that are trying to portray us, are not people to be lashed out at, the ones that should be lashed out at is Washington, DC, the VA system.

I'm pretty sure he means that a terrorist will dress like a half ass Soldier to attract service members. Once he has one or two then he can be sure that he is killing the right people. Shoot he might even be able to call it self defense with the way some of these guys are acting.
