How likely would it be for me to reclassify to 17C?

I’m currently an 11B and I was just wondering how likely it would be to reclass to 17C. I’ve seen other posts about this but the answers seem to beat around the bush. I don’t mind my current MOS and where I’m at but 17C seems like a great career, especially if I end up leaving the Army. My unit is already overstrengthed and 11B is an overstrengrethed MOS to begin with. Does anyone have a clue if it’s realistic to switch?

11B is not at all over strength, it's under strength acroos the Army for E4 and E5.
It's easy to switch, as long as you pas the test and are accepted.

It's realistic to switch. Take a look at the packet requirements. I think this is the one you have a test that's part of the packet with logic puzzles and some basic knowledge. Regardless, take a look at the packet and try to get it together. Good luck to you. 17C has great potential for after army career. I would reclass to it in a heartbeat and have been trying for years (clearance issues).

11B is defiantly not over strength in fact they are understrength once again. They even have 11b up to SSG for prior service now. But 17C would be great for your career if you can pass the test and get accepted. If I was you I would defiantly look into it

Talk to retention, your unit may be overstrength, the Army never has been with 11 series. Anyway see what the requirements are, ask to be tested and good luck. Thank you for your service.

Be honest, the infantry wasn't what you hoped and now you want to go play with computers. There's more to the Army/military than the job you do, there's also the part of honoring your commitments and putting up with all the bs that comes with being a soldier.

It is likely you could reclass, back when I was in there where lists of soldiers wanting to trade MOS with other soldiers (these were posted by company HQ on the wall) but it has to go up the chain and mostly likely will be turned down since its your first enlistment. Why? Well because the Army paid money to train you as an 11B and they want a return on their investment. Plus, how long is 17C training? Is there enough time remaining on your contract to go through training and enough time for the Army to get a return on their investment for your reclass?

If you don't mind it as you say, then just see it through to the end and learn all you can about physical security. You can combine that with your cyber skill training later on and have a more well rounded perspective of security convergence... since the two do intersect and affect each other.

17C and 17E are getting re-org’d and nearly every echelon. It should be an easy switch.

I am a current 17E, a similar field. Transitioning to 17B is very realistic if you have the right pre-reqs. GT above 115 probably, must be eligible for TS-SCI and pass a polygraph. Be prepared to spend 6 months going through a school which will essentially be nothing but keyboard time learning and writing scripts.
You just need to talk to your Re-up NCO and be very straightforward about what you want, and don't let anyone else try to get you to stay in a career field you don't want to be in any longer.

There are plenty of prior 11B’s hanging around the 17C world. Put it this way, at the time I applied I had about two years of college in towards a computer science degree, no certifications, and a little experience in IT before the Army and I got picked up. Put your packet in.

Other than that, the school is in two locations and a combined 12 months between Pensacola and Fort Gordon. Is a sweet career field if you’re looking at saying in and getting out.

You need to talk to retention about the requirements for that MOS. They expect some knowledge in the field before applying.

I am currently a 19D late in my reenlistment window looking to reenlist to reclass to 17C. My packet currently lists my Sec+ SY0-501 certification, knowledge in Nmap and Wireshark, and some foundational knowledge in a few programming languages. I have no formal work experience and am new to the field and am worried that my packet will not suffice especially considering the fact that I am not coming from a relevant MOS.
