How likely is it for the 4 year TIG requirement for board elibility to remain or will it be reduced?

What effects will Waiting 4 years in order to be looked at for SFC have on the force? Will people get out? Go officer? Or will the requirement be reduced?

Thoughts?

Since it was just implemented, it should be that way for quite a few years

Changes to TIG and TIS have never adversely effected the force nor its pool. There may be a handful hat make other decisions, that too enhances the force. Bottom line is, once something is the norm it is the norm, hence everything goes back to normal.

If I remember correctly, it’s not 4 years to get looked at. It’s 4 years to Pin on E7. I believe you still get looked at after 24 months TIG. This allows you to go through the board process and get all your paperwork in order without any real negative.

You will end up on the NFQ (Not Fully Qualified), but that doesn’t hurt you. I have a friend who graduated SLC with me, #4 in the class. He was in the NFQ list while I was top 5%. He lacked EIB, SL KD time, and a broadening assignment. When the board convenes again he will probably also end up in the top5%, and be closer to the 4 year TIG requirement.

The 4 year requirement is really not bad. It allows you time to complete your KD requirement, and then do staff time or a broadening assignment. This will set you up for success as an E7. Remember even as an Infantryman, an E7 is where it stops being about kicking in doors and more about paperwork and building up younger soldiers and NCOs.
