How is your credit taken into consideration when going on recruiting duty?

I had my orders deleted because I just mentioned that we had a lot of credit card debt. I don't think they even bothered to run my credit. I would have loved to have been a recruiter.

It has been awhile since I was a recruiter but, the credit/debt check is usually to see if you are currently in over your head. If you are financially stable now you should be alright as far as the credit check goes. If it was something serious a few years back it may affect whether or not they allow you to serve as a recruiter.

It can be very expensive to live out on the economy as a recruiter depending on where you get stationed. They usually place the sergeants in the rural areas where the cost of living is a little less and the staff sergeants and above will go to the metro areas. Not always the case but they try to accommodate.

I always try to inform my Soldiers that credit and driving are big in the civilian sector as well.

Maintaining both in a great manner is extremely important. I know the companies which I have worked for always checked.

Usually it is what they call a "Soft Search" and as long as that does not raise red flags you are good.

The same holds true for a "Secret Clearance"

SSG Private RallyPoint Member They will review your credit to ensure you are not in over your head as far as debt to ratio and that sending you at on recruiting duty will not put you or your family in a financial hardship. A lot of the assignments are not close to military installations so every thing you need to buy is on the economy, not to mention medical facilities. If you have a recent secret clearance you should be good. Also, if there are any questions or concerns you can appeal or address them, you can also put on the paperwork what the lawyer is taking care of for you and why that will enlighten those reviewing the paperwork when they pull your credit report and see those items.

Recruiting duty is like every job, what you make of it. You are helping to fill the foxholes across the unit and helping America's youth with some discipline, guidance and goals. truly rewarding if you remember why you are there and lead as you have in your MOS. Good luck and Salutes
