How is work life in Camp Zama for a Generator mechanic? What kind of unit would I be put in as a 91D? I’ve deployed to Afghanistan with the unit I’m in and don’t look forward to another one if i PCS to Japan. Are there back to back field trainings? Deployments? And is there enough of free time after work to explore japan in the unit that I’m likely to be in? Details on driving in Japan for a soldier of E4?(not sure if rank matters in the army for operating vehicles in Japan). I’d greatly appreciate any input from anyone stationed there as a 91D or similar MOSs!

While I wasn't stationed in mainland Japan, I was stationed in Okinawa and went TDY to Zama. When I visited Camp Zama it was mostly signal units and Headquarters units. USARJ is there as well as a small MI unit.
Army E4s are allowed to drive in Japan, but in that area you may want to take a train more often.
As long as you have a US driver's license you can receive a SOFA driver's license with only a written exam. It's a pretty easy exam.

I grew up in Okinawa, lived there for 16 years. Nice place huh SFC? Seems like I’ll be able to drive there. Just a possible option for me now but I can’t re-enlist yet because I’m in the next fiscal year but I will try for torii station if possible. I grew up in Yomitanson. I speak Japanese(mother is Okinawan). I won’t re-enlist unless I can PCS to Japan or have interesting options. Thank you for the response!
