Received some rough information today about what I thought was just a bureacratic error.

A little upfront information:

I am in an E6 position as a Howitzer Section Chief at FT. Bliss
I was in the Guard for 7 years, and have been Active Duty at FT. Bliss for over a year and a half. I have already received my (P) status at the promotion board, and have already completed ALC.

I was told Army promotion requirements for Time in Service are not based on Time in Service, but Time in Federal service (or the BASD on your ERB)

So despite having the same MOS I had in the Guard 13B, I believe only my 2 week Annual Trainings, AIT, and Basic Training counted towards my active time.

So instead of getting promoted in the next month as I thought, I will have to wait 2 more years to get promoted if this information is correct.

An E4 who hypothetically would get promoted on todays date, would be able to reach SSG before me. I did know that switching from the Guard to active would put me behind on retirement, but I didn't know it would hinder career progression so immensely.

Regardless, I am still happy that I switched to active duty, but cant imagine reenlisting and being at such a disadvantage for future promotions.

I had my CC guy compute my NG time and it changed my TIS dates. Make sure you have all your active orders and get your stuff added, may make a little difference.

CPT Lawrence Cable - and the one you sited below states TIS for Reserves is set off the PEBD, nothing states that it resets if you switch to Active.

CPT Lawrence Cable no, he was simply told wrong. The AR on promotion defines time in service as federal service not Active duty service.
What usually happens in these situations is that their ERB has either the wrong DIEMS, or wrong PEBD so emilpo doesn't recognize that they are eligible for portion. That fixed with a DA 1506 submitted to finance.
Or the second most common mistake is that DFAS is correct and they're getting paid correctly, but emilpo doesn't match up. That's fixed with an E-PASR transaction by the Brigade S1 Warrant and it takes about 72 hours

That was my assumption, but you deal with this stuff every day and I don't anymore. The only place I've seen the Active Duty Service is in Retirement.

Your right, my DIEMS was incorrect and the brigade warrant reviewed my 1506 and submitted a ticket. Then I made 5

I was prior guard and can tell you that the only time that counted toward my active time was BCT, AIT, mobilization and deployments. None of my weekends or AT counted. Hope that helps.
