Looking at the deaths from H1N1 and the lack of panic, I believe there is more going on here than just a government response. A new virus with no vaccine and no treatment other than for symptoms, I really do not think there is much the government can do but research. I fully believe the media is driving the panic and those that hate the President. If state and local officials can act decisively, they can effectively blunt this illness. But it takes major will and a declaration of emergency to do so. I think it will happen before it is over, but perhaps slower than it should. Everyone is afraid of blowback in an election year. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Sun, 15 Mar 2020 19:33:42 -0400 2020-03-15T19:33:42-04:00 Response by SPC Erich Guenther made Mar 16 at 2020 7:04 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-is-the-administration-doing-regarding-their-response-to-the-coronavirus?n=5666535&urlhash=5666535 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Unfortunately our response was driven by China&#39;s attempt to cover this up until it got a foothold and then we had to react at a level we have not reacted at before. So a lot of the measures are new to the American public which I think is driving the fear and panic. Then of course it is a Presidential Election year so that always adds idiots to the spectacle online. I am not at all fearful of this new virus and think by Summer or Fall it will be gone just like SARS was. Here&#39;s what I think, for whatever that&#39;s worth. The &quot;data&quot; indicates this strain infects widely, and quickly...but with a very low mortality rate across the broadest cross section of society. I think we (the lowest risk segment) are taking an economic &quot;hit&quot; to protect the highest risk segment...and to ensure our existing healthcare infrastructure has a fighting chance. For the moment...that seems prudent and compassionate. I think there comes a time when the scales shift, and we&#39;ll be contemplating destroying the economy and society for an untold number of years grasping at straws...I&#39;d like to think the Administration is taking that into account as well. This-is-going-to-hurt...that&#39;s inevitable. How well we recover, is yet to be determined, and depends greatly (I believe) on certain entities not using it as an excuse to scoop up unprecedented powers, or enact unsustainable policies.
