How is the 7-17 Cav at Fort Hood?

I'm headed to headed to 1st Brigade, 7th Squadron, 17 Cavalry Regiment to be a 25U over there. Anyone know what to expect? I'm really excited to go tbh.

7-17 cav, formally known as 4-227 avn regt. It's not too bad.

Hard work work, I'm sorry but look like it is your first unit and I apologize if I'm wrong, you should be preparing yourself for hard work and discipline, forget about what other people think about the unit, get there work hard and draw your own conclusions when is time for you to PCS.

I just PCS from the unit this year. I would have to say that life in 7-17 is very very fast. As bad as that sounds, I actually enjoyed it over there. Everyone has their own opinion about them but that was my first duty station and unit. There are ups and downs as well. What one of my ncos told me when I was there, expect the worst but hope for the best ☺️☺️☺️ good luck and enjoy the great place.

Unfortunately I'm leaving 7-17th PCSing to Fort Rucker.. if I could I would finish my career with with Palehorse. Be ready for a fast paced high optempo unit that will challenge you. A huge plus for joining Palehorse is all the tradition and history that comes with being with the Cavalry!! Consider it a huge honor and privilege to serve in such a prestigious unit!!

I served in Vietnam with the 7/17th when it was 1st Aviation Brigade. 7/17th in Vietnam was basically Gunships C-model Huey and AH-1g Cobra. I was a door gunner/Crew Chief, our mission was to fly out to LZ with A,B,C Troop and pick up any downed Air Crews or pick up troops in the bush. I was in HHT we had a CC bird, 2 recovery slicks and a OH-58 that was Air Scout . This my bird tail # 6719492. Was supposed to have cross sabers on nose but avionics door was replaced after Charley put a few rounds through it. Doors had 7/17th on them, off here because it's hotter than hell. No radar, GPS just simple instrument gauge package . I'm very proud the First Cav adopted my unit. I served with 227th AHC at Fort Hood for almost 2 years.
