Be prepared for the coldest temperatures you have ever witnessed. Get a block heater for your car. The assignment isn't bad. The two commands are both great to work for. The town is small and the people are tolerable. The locals are mostly oil or coal miners. The bars are fun during the summer it's actually a really beautiful area. If you're base-bound, it's not horrible. If you're in the field, it can be a bit boring. I know, as Security Forces, we were constantly responding to birds landing on the fences & setting off the alarms. Never fun to trudge through deep snow - or fall into an 8' snow drift...lol.
I would say, if you get that base, don't fall into the trap that so many others did while I was there - turn to drinking when you're bored. Like it has been said, it depends on what your are going to be doing. There isn't as much for single people as I would have thought, but there are a lot of events either on base, or sponsored through base organizations. The town is small, but there is everything you will need. There are a lot of cultural spots around, and there are historical items as well if you are in to that. It does get cold, but I have seen worse. You get used to it after a while. The big thing to remember is that you have to approach it with an open mind.
