When you get to OCS you will be able to request pre-branch. There will be some things you will have to provide for your packet consideration but it’s pretty simple. However, if the branch you desire isn’t available it, it may not matter and you will compete for a branch like everyone else. Classification and aptitude test results are considered, as well as background and personal desires, however, needs of the service trumps personal preference. Remember, your role as an officer will differ from that as an enlisted; knowing much about the area from an enlisted viewpoint does not mean you can lead in that area. I included a letter of recommendation from my battalion commander which requested that I return to my unit as an MI Officer. In my case I had 12 years of enlisted MI experience. I was told the letter and experience carried a lot of weight during the branch selection board. 1LT Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 12 Oct 2021 09:08:27 -0400 2021-10-12T09:08:27-04:00 Response by LCDR Mike Walker made Oct 23 at 2021 12:01 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-is-branch-placement-when-going-from-enlisted-to-commission-is-background-considered?n=7332415&urlhash=7332415 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>&quot;The good of the service&quot;. They will put you where they need to. Some consideration is given to your preferences IF there are openings. Those with engineering degrees are usually kept in or close to their discipline.
