My friend, for example, a Capt in the AF, brought her dog to work yesterday instead of leaving him at home (we work a 9/80 schedule). There are a number of ways to work out dog-sitting situations, you just need to talk to your Chain and/or neighborhood or community members and see what options are out there for you at your current post. If you are in a deploying service or MOS, think hard about having a pet. It will limit your housing options and increase your housing costs, considerably. Instead volunteer at the local pet shelter. Dealing with so many pets and getting the adoption ready, you will be a pet genius when the time comes for a permanent pet.
