Hospitals, medical clinics and services are normally operated with a skeleton crew and limited resources during holidays and other slow periods, beds are always at a limited capacity. You take a big chance that everything will run smooth but with normal emergencies added to the pandemic, travelers could see the availability of these exhausted quickly. I know the love of family and family meals at Thanksgiving are viewed as enjoyable; but, is 2020 the right time to put you and your family at risk of exposure and the unavailability of medical staff and services should they be needed. In addition, there are the before precautions, arrival precautions, and return precautions that must be taken to ensure the safety of yourself and family members traveling with you and at the places you plan to visit. Is it worth it, can it wait. Weigh the pros and cons.Response by SFC Edna Madison made Nov 24 at 2020 10:13 AM2020-11-24T10:13:45-05:002020-11-24T10:13:45-05:00SFC Kelly Fuerhoff6527365

I can't go home to visit family for Christmas. The only time I have for Thanksgiving is when I was stationed closer to them 2 years ago.

But I'm from Nebraska and it's a covid cesspool it seems. Plus 3 people in my immediate family (dad, brother, nephew) have tested positive in the last 2 months so no to going home when my daughter is immunosuppressed. Not only that her dad's twin sisters had it as well (they work in a nursing home). Her sister's mom had it too. So...no thanks. We'll have to see how things go next year either in July block leave or holidays next year. Or see if anyone can come visit at some point.

I'm used to not being home for holidays. She misses family since until 2 years ago she got to see all her cousins on both sides but more my family and could see her siblings (half siblings) more often than she can now.Response by SFC Kelly Fuerhoff made Nov 24 at 2020 4:42 PM2020-11-24T16:42:35-05:002020-11-24T16:42:35-05:002020-11-20T18:19:17-05:00
