How does the RallyPoint ranking process work? is it a straightforward algorithm or is there smoke and mirrors involved?

I have been on RallyPoint for a few months and have been curious about how the ranking process determines that I am xx out of 310,xxx veterans today. There are many more members who have significantly more Points than I do so I expect there is an algorithm which takes into consideration profile completeness, influence points, and some type of data entry frequency over a period of time. Perhaps there is artificial intelligence to filter out a gathering of chimpanzees keying randomly. I wonder if self promotion reduces our standing or sitting for those of us who are not chimpanzees [2015-07-10 edit - replaced monkeys with chimpanzees after realizing I had insulted the chimps - thanks to SPC Charles Brown for pointing out the error of my ways.]

I think it's a straightforward points system, sir. I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.

To see the source of all your points, go to:

https://www.rallypoint.com/influence

Then click on "View my influence score details" to expand and see the source of all your points. You can actually do that for any member. On the desktop site, go to any profile and click on their Influence Score. There is full transparency on how everyone gains their points, which then determines your ranking.

If you go to the leader board sir, (upper right next to your profile, hover over arrow) and expand View My Influence Score Details you'll see its all points you can earn:

I've relied more on the site points but if you are a networker and send out invites, you get 1000 points for each person that responds to the invite and becomes a member. (300 for responding and 700 for a verified join)

At a million points, you learn the secret RallyPoint handshake and the true value of the points system. At 5 million points, you learn where Hoffa is buried. At 10 million points, you learn who shot Kennedy. At 25 million points, you get a pass to area 51. At 50 million points, you learn how they faked to moon landing. I never was good at keeping a secret.

Sir, I would hope it would be a combination of all of the reasons listed in your question. I would hate to think or find out that this is what is really going on.
