For example, and E6 gets out but comes back after 24 months. The grade is determined to be an E5 because he did not complete all ade requirements such as advanced leaders course, and was an E6 for 12 months before getting out. The longer the time period for the break in service, the more likely you are to lose your rank. Usually all the USMC PD school are to participate with the Army. I recall that the coast would reduce anyone and everyone who was prior service to the rank of E3.
