How does someone acquire the Military Historian 5X ASI? Is it limited to AC? NCO, WO, Officer?

College is something I'm constantly back and forth about. Aside from aviation, history has always been one of my favorite things. I know history won't likely make you rich, but if you're happy you're part way there, right?

Not sure but I am sure they want a Master's Degree in History.

If you get an MA in History with a Military focus you can apply to get the 5X ASI.

Holdover from WWII days and the period after when Military Historians set about documenting the war. When I served as a full-time Army Reserve about twenty years ago there were still a couple of Military History Detachments in the force structure. Don't know about now though. I am sure the Army History Office at HQDA still has a few officers that have that ASI.

Do what you love, "rich" is a word of nearly infinite meanings. That is as long as you can manger to meet your real duties to you family.

But you ablity to realy leart wuill be grealy enhanced by taking colledge courses since they s will challenge you viewpoints and without that your learning will be narrower This fall I expect top be the only student in my sixties in a UD calculus 1 course, not for a degree because want to understand Maxwell equations properly

There were 25 Military History Detachments when I retired in 2014 after having deployed to OIF & OND with the 322nd MHD. The DMOS was 46Q at the time but I was an 11C due to my civilian museum & archaeology background. At that time there was only one active component MHD, a few NG ones, & the rest were USAR. I found the USAR got utilized more back then. I believe there are not more NG MHDs. The course at the time was a week long at McPherson when I did it. Obvious not there anymore after BRAC but I think it’s at Knox. There was work to have an ASI or SQI but not sure if that ever materialized. An O-5 from USAR’s G-3 was the manager of all of the MHDs at the time as well. I was TDY a few times to USAR G-3 to assist. I’m out of the loop so don’t know what’s current but I’ve friends still doing it.
