How does OHA work with dual military in Germany?

My wife and I are dual military due to PCS after this deployment to Sembach. How will this affect our BAH going to OHA. Do we really lose out on the pay side or not really?

OHA really isn't a bad thing when it's coupled with COLA, which you and your wife will receive. Because of that you will actually be doing better financially.

My husband and I are dual military as well here in Germany. We chose to live on base because of OHA. There are differences between BAH and OHA. You will both have your OHA allowances which could allow you to get a place that costs more when it comes to looking for places, however unlike BAH, OHA is only paid by the amount of your rent. For instance between the both of you say you have an allowance of 3,000 Euros a month and find a place that costs 1,700 Euros a month, you would only get paid the 1,700. Housing will only pay what your rent is, the only time your dual military status plays a part is giving you a bigger allowance...But remember a bigger place out here means bigger utility bills to have to pay as well. You do get COLA as well which goes up and down depending on the Euro rate which could help out as well. Hope this helps.

OHA Pays for your Rent that is it. You get a rank cap for most dual military couples you end up getting the max same as a O6 living offbase. You will also get a utility allowance it's like 650 euro with dependence and 450 euro single rate in Germany KMC (Sembach falls in the KMC) area right now. The lower ranking member will only get the single rate utility allowance.
