MAJ Bryan Zeski I don't speak for anyone, but I believe the thought is by holding the fear of being responsible for the shutdown is greater than attempting to get a budget passed that got you elected. Stop funding this or that, or getting funding for this or that.

If the GOP(Great Orange President) wants a government shutdown he doesn't have to wait until September - all he need do is veto the currently in-works spending bill. This would be a tried and true action known as "putting your money where your mouth is."

On the other hand this may be nothing to worry about; after all, it's only been a day since the above statement and it's well within the normal waffle window for the GOP.

I remember the last Government shutdown, and it was a joke and did not make a real difference beyond a bit of an inconvenience.
I think President Trump is running into the wall I knew he would run into...Democrats and Republicans or corrupt cowards and they only really care about usurping as much power for themselves as they can...fixing the problems they created does not do this, so both parties have no interest in doing what they were elected to do.

If there were lessons on streamlining or improving governance to be learned after the last shutdown, it was lost in the political points scoring efforts of the parties playing the Blame Game. Hell, if there was ANYTHING positive to be found, it was in the best interest of the Blame Gamers to not find it. As for myself, I had a 3 week unpaid vacation since I work for USDA, but when it was over, we were back up and running right away.

Operation: Drain the Swamp

Problem:
We are spending to much money. Also we can't come to a agreement to either raise the ceiling or do something about it.

Most likely proposed solution:

Cut government spending, cut government positions, cut government programs, cut government

Most likely method:
Same way the Democrats passed the Federal Reserve Act of 1917. All the conservatives were at home (Because people don't work for free, especially in politics) so you get a 96% approval rating from government and it passes and gets signed in on the same day.

To make things work in a shutdown, it needs to be a real shutdown. What I mean is that the Senators and Congressmen suspend all of their pay and benefits to include their insurance until it gets fixed and let them be the only ones working. The excessive spending and budget battles and ideologies from both sides of the aisle will never get solved until certain parts of their anatomies get put in a vice and it is squeezed. It needs to be personal with them and unfortunately, I don't think that will ever happen because it is all well and good with democrats and republicans until it hits them in the wallet or anywhere in their livelihood..."you mean I have to do my job without pay"...heck yeah!!! That is what you are asking the uniform personnel to do in a shutdown. If it is a govt shutdown, it needs to be a full shutdown and they can't stand the heat of a full and lengthy shutdown from veterans, retirees, govt contractors (all over the us), DoD civilians etc. Maybe if it is personal they might be willing to work together more.

I think a government shut down will call attention to poorly run programs, government excess and maybe it will help eliminate excess.

I am afraid that the great orange hope is floundering. His fellow GOP perps cannot decide whether to help him or oppose him. This is proof that the repubs cannot lead even with all three power centers they control. I say we need to have some independent leaders up there in DC so that Meitner party has power

I guess the answer depends on to what extent one believes the uninterrupted operation of a bloated Federal government is necessary to achieve that end.
