How do you view Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University?

I am currently pursuing a BS in Aeronautics through Embry-Riddle and I was just curious if anyone in the aviation field had an opinion. I am 36 credits away from completing my degree, but I plan on staying in for 20 years. I also plan on acquiring an A&P license in the near future. As you can tell, I am trying to set myself up for post-military for a career in aviation.

Below is a link that ranks Embry-Riddle University. As you can see, it is highly ranked. I obtained my degree at another university, but I knew a lot of co-workers that attended this University. We worked on the Space Shuttle program, so these co-workers were all in aerospace. When they would talk about their classes, it was always good reports. When you retire from the military, consider a career on the Space Program. Best wishes!

As an aeronautics major that so far hasn't used his degree I can wholeheartedly say it's not worth the 1000 dollar a month student loan payment

I say ditch the general "Aeronautics" degree, and go for the Technical Management degree. While using the time in the military to complete your Bachelors degree is great, you can pick a more challenging degree to distinguish yourself from the rest. The Tech Management degree also has some sweet Majors associated with it (Project Management, Management of IS, Information Security, Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, and Facilities and Construction Management).

E-R gas a good reputation from all I have heard. I have had several friends who received multiple licenses from the school. Setting yourself up for the future is a smart move. The degree coupled with experience will certainly make you a valuable asset to any aviation organization. Good luck!

You're on the right track, also start networking in the aviation industry as early as possible before transitioning. Join PAMA, and attend aviation conventions. You need to meet people in the industry, they will guide you.

Embry Riddell is respected in gov't cirlcles (FAA, Armed Services, etc...) so if staying for 20 is primary goal then your set. However, A & P is your Golden Ticket if your other aspirations don't pan out and your 99.9% of getting a job with a major air carrier (FedEX is highly sought after for their pay structure and benefits).

I continually hear mixed reviews about their graduates in the civilian world, but graduates that I've met personally feel very comfortable and satisfied with what they have learned and the opportunities that their degrees & certificates have offered.

As an Alumni, I recommend you the Embry-Riddle university. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance Management and it help me a great deal after retiring. I do recommend you that if you are contemplating staying in the aviation field after retirement to complete you’re A&P certification. Having such certification can be a plus when applying for a mechanic position. In addition, try to be up to speed with all the latest technology in relation to aviation maintenance prior retirement. Even if you are not using a new technology as part of your job, but is used in your unit/field, get familiar with it.

I flew for 10 years and entered ERAU to obtain a Masters in Aviation Management. Got transferred, but looking back now it would have landed me a job for sure.

Embry-Riddle is unquestionably the finest aviation university on the planet. Unfortunately, it's not particularly well-known outside the industry. The good news is that since your are pursuing an aviation career, your degree will be held in high esteem. If you leave the aviation/aerospace world, as I did, your degree won't hold a high level of distinction.
