How do you think "Radical Muslims" are seen by those Muslims who are not??

I often wonder if the "non-radicalized" Muslims look at those that are kinda like we Christians look at people like Westboro Baptist Church.

They say that 15-20% of the Muslims have been "radicalized" but half don't want to be martyrs and or kill people. They just believe like those who have been. That's about 3 million Muslims who want to harm or could harm America and Other Countries, if they wanted to.

But if most Muslims do not believe this way, WHY is it that they won't speak out or condemn certain acts? I am talking mainly about those that are here in America. IF they have, PLEASE show me when and where, because I would love to see it.

And I ask this because of what just happened to a person working for an American company over in France...

The Muslims I knew in Turkey, that i spoke to about such, did in-fact view the radical Muslims in a way very much like the westboro folks are viewed.

One of the issues we have been facing is that the traditional Muslims don't really speak out against the radicals. To neither condone nor condemn them says a lot to everyone else. Do they not condemn them out of fear? It would be better for them and everyone if they would show us that they are against what they do.

My opinion ... If they do not speak out and denounce the actions of radical Muslims, it is the same as supporting them.

While I truly believe that most Muslims do not support the actions of the radicals, they do not speak out because of fear of being called an infidel for going against the Koran. No excuse .. you either support them or you do not. Speak out and show whose side you are on.

To be honest I have no idea how they Muslim "extremists" are viewed by everyday, moderate Muslims because, aside from the onesies or twosies you may see/hear from on news shows, there is no word put forth in any great volume from the Muslim communities. I think this may be part of the reason that sideways glances are too often thrown in their direction by the average American or western citizen.

I suspect the problem is the media you consume. Muslim organizations around the world condemn this stuff. I lived abroad myself and have family in the Middle East. That has been completely eye opening. The agenda driven bubble most Americans live in is a travesty.

Muslims protest, denounce and even fight against this stuff. You will NOT hear about it in American news unless something happens to force them to cover it.

Right now, Islam is getting a lot of free press from the radicals - there is no counter message.
the non-crazy muslims are letting the crazy muslims ruin their message by letting them do all of the talking.

I am a proud Christian and unlike those poor lost souls in Westboro, I try to be non-judgemental and believe that love will conquer hate. I would go insane if someone compared me to someone known as being so blatently hypocritical. I would image it would be the same for them. All they want is the freedom to practice their faith and everytime one of the extremists lashes out, they get looked at as the enemy. Even the most passive muslim has a breaking point and if they continue being harassed for peacefully practicing their religion, it is us who is to blame for creating another extremist. I try to look at what is in your heart, not what you wear on your head. I'm the first to admit that when I hear arabic I am back in the zone. But that isn't out of hate (necessarily). But anyone, regardless of religion, who kills to further their cause or justify their beliefs is the enemy of mankind, not just a certain religion.

Absolutely, they are appalled by the techniques and devices used by the radical groups. Did you know that the extremist believe that Muslims who are not extremists are not going to be saved? This is how they justify killing other Muslims, it's ok to do so because they (other Muslims) are not among the saved. Want to know more check out Wahhabi Islam.

I think just like white people who view white racist who are not racist themselves; those who do not agree with gay/lesbian marriage but have gay/lesbian friends and do not stand in the way of legal battles but are then called homophobic and horrible people as they do not agree with others; or other groups who are for some reason or another lumped together and sometimes confused and judged by others because they have something in common with those who are doing something that someone does not agree with, is bad, or whatever the case may be. Most can see that there is an issue with bad things and do not agree with the bad acts, some may even be more upset as they are misrepresenting their group.

Not a Muslim -- But I believe that Islam is not as monolithic as some may believe. The difference between Shiite and Sunni is analogous to the difference between Catholic and Protestant. I believe there are also significant schisms within Shiite Islam and within Sunni Islam. I suspect that some Muslims accept each other despite doctrinal differences and some believe the others are damned for all time. The same spectrum that Christians have.

I normally avoid these discussions in professional settings, but honestly in my opinion, there aren't enough non extremist Muslims condemning extremist Muslims. I believe that silence is agreeing. If I ignore something that is wrong, I am part of the problem; not the solution.
