How do you show your individuality?

Everything military is very much about standards and professionalism. At some point, everyone needs a break, whether it be a small poster in your office, a souvenir from your last vacay, a favorite pair of shoes, or your favorite radio station on Pandora radio. What transforms you into YOU?

Mine is portable: a custom made phone case with a compartment for my "inspectable item." :)

As you age, it gets to be less of a thing you think about. You're not going to change. When I was a young MIL, I guess my double gradient sunglasses which are overkill for CONUS were on my face because they looked different from anything else. This was before Oakley and others got in the picture. In middle O'Dom and throughout my Civil Service life, I eschewed the "I love me" wall. Rather I had one award. It was the "Dummy Award" for a conspicuous humorous act. That was it along with a generic Seabee plaque. Never went for the name thing on the desk. The funny thing is, even at my age, my referee gear gets individualized because like any other tool, we have our favorites. So I have taped whistles which are easier on the teeth, a certain wristband lanyard, a certain wallet, a certain watch. All in all, it's pretty nondescript but people notice I'm not a newbie referee. When you're deployed, the creativity comes out. We had "Little John" who wore a tophat while operating a grader. A demure photo Warrant you'd easily overlook until he became "Ralph the Gorilla". To this day a bunch of people won't believe it was Dale because Dale would never be like that. I do remember the little things from those I've lost. The clown on a unicycle entertaining the kids that Dave did and then he was gone in an instant when the Columbia burned up on reentry. So a lot of these things just point to our individual humanity.

Always been a watch and sunglasses guy, so I'm on a rotation. That's about as best as I can do.

Anymore I wear a baseball cap when I go out and about as a fashion statement. Wifey doesn't like it, but also serves a functional purpose of keeping the sun off my head.

Based on what my workstation would be, at one time I did have a pink mustache background for being a fan of Markiplier on YouTube. I've had pictures of my family, funny faces, random abstract art. I've also posted some quotes, drawings on cork boards. I'm also the queen of Post-Its, lol.

I also listen to music when I'm working, helps me focus on my tasks. Usually it's mellow; Mumford & Sons, Soft 90s Alternative, game soundtracks (Entwinded).

I get tattoos wherever I get stationed...except here at Fort Drum, NY. I haven't found a tattoo shop I'd be proud to get ink from.
