How do you move an 842 lb. gun safe up an outdoor flight of stairs?

The stairs are probably wide enough for two people below and two above. It took three of us nearly two hours to move it across ten feet of yard, a small step onto a porch, across the threshold, and across a single story home. Soon we'll have to move it from a moving truck up to a second story apartment. Is there a good way to do this, or should I hire a professional?

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA Might also consider if the stairs you intend to use and the apartment floor will support the load of safe and number of movers/ equipment to be used.
And as you said moving it into an apartment I'll assume you do not own it.. I would not even attempt this until you have throughly reviewed your renters contract for restrictions to doing so AND a good renters insurance policy in place.

Personally Id hire someone, make sure they have insurance and a Biz license. That will assist in the insurance claim or defending the law suit when the safe crashes though the stairs or apartment floor and lands on the down stairs neighbors pet guinea pig

Speaking as a former construction worker that second story floor probably is not rated for that much dead weight I wouldnt advise moving it up there

Hire a professional. There are dolly’s made especially for moving gun safes. I have a 1500 lb safe and one guy was able to move it with his special dolly.
