How do you feel the military (and veterans) are being portrayed on TV?

Either during the BIG game or scattered amongst the numerous shows, the military means BIG money to supporters. We are featured in movies, TV shows, and commercials - and how does that make you feel? Are we being portrayed in a positive light, being laughed at, or simply being used to further someone's agenda?

Well we are certainly being laughed at in Enlisted, but it's so ridiculous and lighthearted that somehow I'm okay with it.

Great topic sgt: While I am glad that veterans issues are being communicated in the mass media, I feel that all servicemen are being unfairly sterotyped as being unfit for civilian employment due to the things they hear on tv. You never hear about the well adjusted veteran who does right most of the time. Its good that physical and mental issues are discussed however, the public seems to think that every veteran has an issue and this crap has to stop.

Most of the time I think they portray us as Idiots and War Criminals. The only war movies I like is Lone Survivor and Act of Valor. Think that's the name of it.

I feel that they are better portrayed now as they once were back in the '70's.

As a youngster watching classic '70's TV shows with my family, such as "Kojak", "The Streets of San Francisco", and "Baretta", the veterans portrayed in those shows were always cast in a negative light. They were portrayed as shell shocked (PTSD), drug addicted, psychopaths and were always appeared and unkempt and wearing their dirty, torn, and tattered O.D. Field jacket.

It gave me the impression, that as 7 year old, that all veterans were shell shocked, drug addicted, psychopaths.

With the exception of the movie Stop Loss, most of the movies, TV shows, and commercials today portray the military and veterans in a positive light.
