While stationed at Nellis AFB, the NASCAR motor speedway was nearby, and whenever there is an event, a lot of Airman would work the show. I cannot speak if we have the same relationship with the NFL. Sure there are the Family Lineage in the sport and I think that has helped and gained more fans, but there are constantly new names coming up from all across the country and competing at all levels of the sport.

I also think that those in the NASCAR sport have many associations that are in the military- from those that work in the team shops, to friends and family in the military. A guy I went through BMT with use to work in Kasey Khane's shop when he was racing with Furniture Row, and the team would send him letters while we were there and would always have race updates! So I think the team mentalities with NASCAR resonate more true our military teams and members. From my experience, and from what I've seen with NASCAR, there seems to be a closer relationship in auto sports with the fans then with the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL.... There are racing teams who are sponsored in part or in whole by different military branches, don't remember the last time I've seen that with other sports venues. Other sports "appreciate" the military when convenient, they just don't seem to put much effort to go above and beyond like auto racing. I certainly did not serve for the external recognition...but do appreciate that no matter how small the act is, the thought is there.
