I think he is an honorable person and like most wants only the best for this country. However, politics being politics he became embattled within his own political party. It will be interesting to see which direction the GOP moves now.

When AT&T broke up and they laid off half their workforce, the statement was made that it was the right thing to do, depending on who was laid off. That is the way I feel about this, it depends on who take the place of weepy John. Now we can focus on McConnell. This leadership has been a catastrophe.

Speaker John Boehner has been bombarded at times by the left and right; but, I think he has done a good job as speaker of the House. Certainly he has been an improvement over the antics of Nancy Pelosi and to a lesser extent Dennis Hastert and Newt Gingrich
He has done his best to reduce the tension in Congress and between Congress and the Administration. I hope the next Speaker will be closer to Boehner in terms of maturity and character.
It is good when somebody recognizes it is time to step down versus being forced out.

There are only two likely reasons he resigned from Congress:
1. Illness
2. A scandal we'll find out about in the not too distant future.

I can fully understand and believe his stated reasons for resigning from the Speakership.

Though, one other possible reason would be to get a replacement in place, appointed by the governor, that then has a distinct advantage in the 2016 election as an incumbent.

When Boehner invited Netanyahu last March to address Congress it so pissed off the Dems and Obama so much he was dead meat. I think that event was so divisive it ruined any relationships with Boehner, Pelosi and Obama..which were already pretty bad or strained to say the least. And we the American public had to endure this divided government and are the worse for it... Obama likes to say under his stewardship he has guided us well.. I think that is BS and maybe with Boehner leaving something might get done in the time left that we have to put up with these juveniles and big egos

Just one man's opinion and I welcome others...but spare us the usual nonsense about Obama ..

He like Mc Connell has not done anything significant to stop Obama. We have them the house and then the Senate and then they can't do anything to we get the White House. Take the Iran treaty that Obama calls and agreement. And he can bypass congress. We're he should need two thirds to pass it. It's dipped and you need two thirds to stop it. And he does not use the nuclear option to stop deplane so we at least get the democrats that want it and Obama veto on record. So we only need 51 votes to stop debate like Ried did for Obama care.

Having read the article, I now agree with Boehner's decision to step down. A lot of people accuse him of not staying true to his party, I say good for him.

I consider myself a moderately conservative Libertarian. Meaning that I have conservative values but at the same time recognize that it takes compromise for parties to work together for the betterment of us the people and the United States of America, NOT for the sole benefit of their parties.
