There are always several other issues during elections and California is pretty good about sending out Voter information booklets. For the political candidates it only lists the positions they run for, party affiliation ( if any) and occupation. For the propositions they define what will change, have amount of space allowed for pro and con arguments, the cost of the proposition ( or income) and who backs or opposes it.
' I do further research on line on candidates and propositions. Here in Cali we get SWAMPED with Proposition and Candidate ads near elections.
There are a lot of local elections for positions, City Counsel Board of education, etc. I tend to lean toward candidates that have real world occupations ( Businessmen, Lawyers, Doctors etc) and don't like career politicians or those from academia. I Also tend to vote against anything that involves raising taxes or implementing fees, no matter how "noble" the reason is. 1stSgt Eugene Harless Fri, 25 Nov 2016 08:10:48 -0500 2016-11-25T08:10:48-05:00 Response by Maj Marty Hogan made Nov 25 at 2016 8:59 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-do-you-decide-your-vote-do-you-listen-to-all-the-arguments-and-then-decide-do-you-always-vote-for-the-same-party-do-you-toss-a-coin?n=2106445&urlhash=2106445

SSG Shavonde Chase I am going to give you the weirdest answer. I vote for what I feel is the best direction of the country. I know my political views and leanings of what I want- I also understand those do NOT reflect others views and times what is best for the nation. So after trying to understand where a candidate's values lie within those guidelines- I make a choice I feel will help us get in the right direction. Not about the me- about the we. I don't place much stock in arguments until I've done some research on whatever issue for myself. There are plenty of political topics where I know that, regardless of the research I put in, there's no way for me to feasibly decide whatever policy would work best for the country because of my own inexperience. That's when I go back to listening to arguments where I can apply the new information I've gathered and see what makes sense at that point. I came out of that much more left leaning. On local elections I vote for the person because they have a different impact so left/right doesn't matter as much. On federal elections I tend to vote left due to the overall impact of what direction the parties tend to take.
