He is being buried in Fairfield, North Carolina. It would be nice to see the Veteran buried with Military Honors. What should I tell him? To be honest, I am at a loss to understand how a military service veteran who was discharged does not have a DD 214 or earlier equivalent.<br />Since funeral homes are by law responsible for contacting the Federal Government Social Security Administration to notify them of the death, I would expect the Funeral Home would know who to contact to verify the military service.<br />In any event military honors are provided by military units. Here's the number for Fort Leonard Wood, they can get you in touch with one nearer to you. [login to see] / 0138.
