How do you annotate ALC on a resume to best leverage the course in the civilian job search?

If you get your ACES transcript it should tell you exactly what you can get credit for. Going through PLDC, BNCOC and ANCOC you can almost get a degree out of those alone.

It depends on the job you are applying for and what that employer is seeking. All significant things get tweaked according to job announcement. If it is supervisory position focus on that. If it is a technical job that relates to your MOS focus on that. Mention honor grad if applicable.

I haven't tried to move info from ALC onto my resume yet, but when I resubmitted an ACES transcript to my school after ALC it added almost 40 semester hours and moved my upcoming graduation up by a year. Hopefully after SLC this summer I can get enough hours for a whole other degree.

SO the key would be to take Army jargon and translate it in to something civilians would understand. So let's look at how goarmy.com defines ALC.

ADVANCED LEADER COURSE (ALC)
Lead Soldiers Within Your Occupational Specialty

This course focuses on leadership and technical skills required to prepare Soldiers selected for promotion to staff sergeant to effectively lead squad/platoon size units. The ALC consists of a both a 90-day highly facilitated web-based common core program and a branch-specific resident phase designed for the Soldiers military occupation specialty.

Something more fitting for the education/training part of your resume:

ADVANCED LEADER COURSE (ALC) - Middle management training that focuses on the leadership and technical skills necessary to effectively lead a small team of around seven to 15 personnel. The course relies on the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts and ideas that will enable a manager to coach, inspire and motivate people to accomplish the goals of the organization.

Feel free to steal, I mean re-purpose.

Jst.doded.mil is the new military transcript for converting transcript to tentative college credits
Www.dmdc.osd.mil also known for VMET record is for armed forces personal who info is already translated into civilian terms. Also CAC required..

Acronyms, military especially, confuse the heck out of civilian human resources people. You do have to translate it for them. Call it "supervisory training" or "personnel management and leadership training." Describe it in terms that make sense for the job you want.

I took my NCOERs to a professional to have the military jargon translated to civilian and it was noted as follow : "Intermidiate Level Management Course" back then I went to BNCOC which is equivalent to ALC now.

Here is how you should translate:

PLDC/WLC - Primary Leadership and Management Development Course

BNCOC/ALC - Intermediate Leadership and Management Development Course

ANCOC/SLC - Advanced Leadership and Management Development Course

When it comes to NCOERs and OERs, call them "performance appraisals."

It depends on your target job. IN GENERAL, however, I'd say the following:
1. I'd spell out ADVANCED LEADERSHIP (or SENIOR LEADERSHIP) COURSE
2. I'd recite the results - something like, "Attended and graduated from US Army (fill in the blank) Course in (fill in the blank date). Graduated (fill in the blank) in a class of (fill in the blank)
3. If Honor Grad, I'd replace the first sentence with "Honor Graduate US Army (fill in the blank) course on (fill in the blank)
4. Describe the course - something like - "This (however long) course focused on the leadership traits and abilities required to succeed at the next level within the Army. Coursework included practical exercises designed to think past the conventional, field problems, physical fitness tests and drill and ceremony"

Of course, feel free to tailor to your particular requirements and writing style, but that's what I'd start with - carve it up from there.

I just used my ACE paperwork as well and Indeed for the resume layout for the Presentation of the resume as Rally Points resume includes a photo.

Do not use the term ALC on your resume. It's important that you spell it out. The name itself is impressive to corporate recruiters and the decision makers. Don't be afaid to describe the selection process as being one of "leadership selection" as well as enhancing your job skills within your MOS. (Don't use "MOS" either, describe your skills). The ALC shows that the military chose YOU for this course because you were exceptional not only in your chosen field but also a leader and problem solver.

I am a retired CEO and I was partial to military hires for their leadership qualities in a team environment and their willingness to take responsibility. Push both very hard.

I agree with LTC Croteau, to assist potential employers with an understanding of ALC, you should offer a description of " successful completion of senior management training" or " successful completion of executive management training"....emphasize military experience and your ability to lead, communication and leadership skills are essential in both military and civilian careers.

The ACES is garbage. Everything is in military jargon that civilians don't understand. If you are a combat arms person, go with your experience as Project and Personnel Management. Realistically, anyone wearing any kind of rank can quantify their experience in project management. Don't put it on as ALC, write it out. I doubt it will be a discriminator for a management position if you are competing with candidates with degrees.

Look in your JST or Joint Services Trannscript (Formerly known as ACES, located in the 'Self Service--My Education' tab in AKO.) It is located about a third of the way down on your right side. Next, go to your Soldier for Life Center (formerly known as ACAP) and talk to a counselor about preparing your resume. If you've already separated from service, you're entititled to counseling up to 180 days following separation. Best of Luck!

You shouldn't have any problems with your transition. ACAP, excuse me, Soldier for Life will write a resume' for you with all of your military credentials and education.
